I work primarily in pastel because I love the brilliant color inherent to the
medium. I often paint what I see in my daily walks along the coastal bluffs
or the flowers or plant forms that grow in my courtyard garden. I rely on
my instinct and intuition to select my color palette, and I am most interested
in trying to render my emotional reaction to my subject matter, rather than
an exact image. Most of all, I believe that the vivid color of the pastel is a
perfect tool for me to express the beauty of my surroundings and the joy I
feel when I am painting.
I was born in California but grew up in scenic southeastern Idaho. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree from Sonoma State University when my children were still young. After working for many years
in a corporate environment, I returned to school in my late 40’s and earned a Master of Arts, Interior
Design, from Mount Vernon College/George Washington University, Washington, D.C. For many
years I owned my own interior design business. In the fall of 2004, my husband and I moved to the
northern California coast. I decided this was my time to return to my art studio. I have shown my
work in group and juried shows on both the west and east coast and in March of 2007, I had my first
solo show at The Sea Ranch Lodge in northern California. I am a member of the North Coast Artist’s
Guild and the Pastel Society of the West Coast.
